Taylor V'Dovec scored 16 points and had 22 rebounds as Blaine cruised in its season opener 71-30 over visiting Concrete in non-conference girls' basketball action Tuesday, Nov. 27.
The Borderites, who advanced to the Class 2A state tournament last year, are now a 1A team under first-year head coach Ryan Pike. With a new coach came a new system to learn and Pike was pleased with the results.
"It was good," Pike said in a phone interview. "They came out and executed well on offense. They ran the set plays nicely and it turned into easy buckets."
Blaine jumped out to an 18-6 lead after the first quarter and was comfortably ahead 39-15 at halftime.
Breanna Chau had 14 points and five assists for the Borderites. Mandy Hayes added 16 points and Alexis McElwain had 10 points for Blaine.
The Borderites next host Sedro-Woolley on Friday, Nov. 30.
