Squalicum's Meghan Lowry scored a team-high nine points and grabbed 12 rebounds, but the Storm girls' basketball team lost its season opener to Cedarcrest 62-32 in a non-conference game Tuesday, Nov. 27, at Squalicum High School.
The Red Wolves' ball pressure helped Cedarcrest build an 18-5 first-quarter lead. By halftime, Squalicum trailed 37-13.
"Cedarcrest is really fast and athletic and were very confident in what they were doing," Storm coach Mark Wright said in a phone interview. "We tried to figure them out, but I think the speed of the game was alarming for some of our kids."
Squalicum kept the game closer in the second half. Cedarcrest outscored the Storm 25-19 during the final two quarters.
"I was also proud of Bailey Molnar," Wright said. "She played her guts out and did a really nice job for us."
Squalicum (0-1) plays Ferndale next at 7:15 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, at Ferndale High School.
