The Lynden girls' basketball team lost 55-42 in its season opener against Brookswood Secondary of Langley, B.C., at home on Tuesday, Nov. 27.
Lynden got out to a slow start and were outscored 13-4 in the first quarter, but came back to be only down by two going into halftime.
"I was really pleased because this will be as good a team as we will face for the rest of the year," Lynden coach Rob Adams said in a phone interview. "Out of the 10 players we played, five had never played varsity before and under the adversity of playing a good team at home in their first varsity game, I was really, really happy with how they played."
Lynden was led by Kelsey Bouwman with 10 points.
