Wonders why signs still up after election

Published: November 28, 2012

Now that the election's over, and most of the political signs have taken a well-deserved rest, I've noticed that there are a few left over sitting on our county easements, at intersections and on the sides of roads here in the north county. Specifically, Good Jobs Now signs. I wasn't aware that Good Jobs Now was on the ballot, and if it isn't a political sign, and it's still hanging around, then what kind of sign is it, exactly? It seems like advertizing to me, specific to not only one industry, but to one company. I hadn't realized that we allowed business advertising in our county easements until now, and was wondering how much they're paying the county to rent such space? Is this money going into the general budget, or is it assigned to a specific project, like tourism promotion? How much is being charged a square foot, and is any type of business advertising available? I'm about as excited as everyone else around here about the possible revenue stream we can get by selling our road space to the highest bidder. We could even sell our road names, although I'm not sure I'd want to live on Preparation H Street, people might get the wrong idea.
