The Lynden football team appeared at No. 20 in the latest edition of the CBS MaxPreps Small Schools National Computer Rankings.
That's the good news.
The bad news is the team the Lions will be facing at 1 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 23, at the Tacoma Dome, in the Class 2A state semifinals was ranked No. 18.
The rankings are based on the Freeman Computer Rankings and are for high schools from state enrollment divisions that generally consist of schools with less than 1,000 students.
Capital (10-2) received a computer ranking of 44.8, while Lynden (11-1) was right behind at 44.4. Capital is the only school among the top 25 with two losses, but both losses came against teams that are still alive in the state semifinals - Tumwater (2A) and Bellarmine Prep (4A).
The Lions’ and Cougars’ semifinal showdown is scheduled to be shown live on ROOT Sports.
Class 1A Royal (12-0) was the only other school from the state to make the rankings at No. 9 with a score of 48.9.
University of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., had the highest ranking at 61.1, followed by American Heritage of Delray Beach, Fla. at 59.2.
