What's open and closed for Thanksgiving, Black Friday in Whatcom County

Most grocery stores will be open at least part of Thursday, Nov. 22, for last-minute Thanksgiving needs. Many restaurants will be open serving holiday fare, but call ahead to confirm and to check if reservations are required. Schools, many government offices and some non-retail businesses will be closed both Thursday and Friday.

A more detailed list of businesses open Thanksgiving will be published Thursday.

Here is the status of various businesses and services for Thursday and Friday. For those not listed, call ahead to check hours.

GROCERY STORES

Haggen: On Thursday, Barkley and Ferndale are open normal hours; Meridian will close at 8 p.m.; Sehome will close at 10 p.m.; and Fairhaven will close at 6 p.m. Normal hours at all stores Friday.

The Markets: Closing at 7 p.m. Thursday. Regular hours Friday.

Cost Cutter: All locations closing at 7 p.m. Regular hours Friday.

Food Pavilion: Closing at 7 p.m. Thursday. Regular hours Friday.

Everson Market: Closing at 7 p.m. Thursday. Regular hours Friday.

Albertson's: Open 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday. Regular hours Friday.

Fred Meyer: Open 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday. Opens 5 a.m. Friday.

Safeway: Regular hours Thursday and Friday.

Community Food Co-op: Closed Thursday. Regular hours Friday.

Trader Joe's: Closed Thursday. Regular hours Friday.

Everybody's Store: Open 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday. Regular hours Friday.

OFFICES, SERVICES

Whatcom County offices: Closed Thursday and Friday.

Bellingham city offices: Closed Thursday and Friday.

Bellingham parking meters: Not enforced Thursday or Friday.

Whatcom County Library system and bookmobile: Closed Thursday and Friday.

Bellingham Public Library: Closed Thursday and Friday.

BTC Connection: Closed through Sunday, Nov. 25.

WCC, WWU Connection: Closed Thursday to Sunday, Nov. 25.

Banks: Closed Thursday. Most are open Friday.

U.S. Postal Service: Closed, no mail delivery Thursday. Regular service Friday.

Garbage: Regular pickup for SSC and Nooksack Valley Disposal customers Thursday and Friday.

Whatcom Transportation Authority: No buses running Thursday. Regular schedule Friday.

The Bellingham Herald: Regular newspaper delivery Thursday but offices closed. If you didn't get your paper, call 360-676-2660 from 6:30 to 10 a.m. Thursday. Customer service open 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday.

Boys & Girls Clubs: Closed Thursday and Friday.

STORES, ENTERTAINMENT

Retail stores: Most closed Thursday. Kmart open 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday and Walgreens locations are open. Black Friday store openings begin Thursday night; most retail stores are open Friday but hours vary widely because of Black Friday sales.

Movie theaters: Open Thursday and Friday.

Blockbuster: Open Thursday and Friday.

Crazy Mike's Video: Limited hours Thursday; call 360-714-9636 to check. Regular hours Friday.

Film is Truth: Closed Thursday. Regular hours Friday.

Trek Video: Closed Thursday. Regular hours Friday.

SCHOOLS

Public schools: Closed Thursday and Friday.

Whatcom Community College: Closed Thursday and Friday. The college is open Wednesday, Nov. 21, but there are no classes.

Western Washington University: Closed Thursday and Friday.

Bellingham Technical College: Closed all week.
