WCC men's basketball opens with big win at home

Published: November 18, 2012

The Whatcom Community College men's basketball team opened the regular season with a 102-56 victory Saturday, Nov. 17, at home over Grays Harbor.

Alex Duncan had 25 points, Ian Tevis and Tyler Clark had 15 each and Chris Tanis added 10.

WCC coach Chris Scrimsher said he was impressed with the play of Zach Stalin, who had 15 points, 11 rebounds and six assists, and the assists were what stuck out for the coach.

"We've been trying to get him to buy into some things," Scrimsher said in a phone interview. "We played an inside-out game tonight and he was very effective with his passing, so that was nice to see."

Although satisfied with his team's play, which included 28 assists, he said the Orcas will just get better.

"I think we're skilled but we're not really experienced and it's going to take us awhile to click on the same page," Scrimsher said. "But once we do that I like our chances."
