FERNDALE - A woman made a wide right turn onto Slater Road that caused a head-on crash Thursday, Nov. 15, injuring both drivers, according to the Washington State Patrol.
Myra L. Kubic, 66, of Ferndale was driving a 2000 Ford Explorer south on Imhoff Road at 6:37 p.m. when she made a wide right turn onto Slater, said Trooper Keith Leary. The Explorer collided head-on with an oncoming Ford F-150.
Kubic and the other driver, Marcus R. Souza, 39, were taken by ambulance to St. Joseph hospital. Souza was treated and released; Kubic, however, was transferred to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. Troopers said she appeared to have a compound fracture of her leg.
"A large amount" of marijuana was found in Souza's truck, Leary said. Troopers took a blood draw from Souza; charges are pending test results.
Leary said on Saturday the collision did not involve any alcohol, but the cause of the crash is still under investigation.
Both vehicles were towed away.
Kubic was in stable condition at Harborview on Saturday afternoon, according to a hospital spokeswoman.
CORRECTION: The vehicle containing the marijuana was corrected on Saturday, Nov. 17.
