Ferndale alum commits to pitch for Central Florida

Published: November 16, 2012

Former Ferndale High School pitching standout Tanner Olson, who is now a sophomore at Skagit Valley College, has committed to play baseball for Central Florida University. He cannot sign a letter of intent until the spring signing period opens April 17.

Olson said the Knights were the first program to make him an offer, but he also was in discussions to play for Western Oregon and Central Washington.

"I decided on Central Florida because they're a top program in the nation and are very respected," Olson wrote in an email. "They have a very well respected pitching program, and being a top program in the nation, it gives me the best chance to get to play in Omaha at the College World Series."

Olson went 2-0 with a 3.74 ERA last spring in 14 appearances for SVC. He recorded 34 strikeouts to only 21 walks in 54 2/3 innings of work.
