I applaud and fully support the appointment of Rob Fix as Port of Bellingham executive director. Rob has demonstrated his capability and will provide much-needed continuity to ongoing initiatives. No doubt that any other choice would carry some risk and require at least some period of adjustment. In these tough economic times we need "full speed ahead." A further positive for Rob is that he has shown both understanding and initiative in courting Canadian businesses, investors and tourists. This has already provided measurable economic benefits for Whatcom County and will continue to do so with a strong Canadian economy and favorable exchange rate for the loonie. Those of us serving the local cross-border community congratulate Rob and wish him well in his new, permanent position.
