Squalicum student wins weight class at world powerlifting championships

Jobe Ashby of of Bellingham won his weight class at the 2012 WPC World Powerlifting Championships Nov. 6-11 in Las Vegas.

Ashby, who was competing as a member of the U.S. Powerlifting Team, won his weight class in the teen division to claim his first world championship title. Ashby set a world record in his class twice during the competition.

Ashby, who holds several press press and bench press records, competes in wrestling and track and field for Squalicum High School.
