A Bellingham woman was injured after she fell asleep at the wheel of a Lexus SUV and crashed on Guide Meridian early Monday, Nov. 12.
Vickie Moncrieff, 58, was driving a 2003 Lexus RX300 south in the left lane at 2:34 a.m. when she fell asleep as she approached the roundabout at Pole Road, said Washington State Patrol Trooper Keith Leary. The car rolled into the median without slowing down and wound up on the south end of the intersection. The Lexus was totaled.
Moncrieff, who was wearing a seatbelt, was taken by ambulance to St. Joseph hospital. Leary didn't know the specifics of her injuries, but said they weren't life-threatening. A hospital spokeswoman said Moncrieff was in satisfactory condition by 10 a.m. Monday.
Nobody else was hurt.
Troopers cited Moncrieff for second-degree negligent driving. Drugs and alcohol are not suspected in the crash.
