Five Western Washington University runners were named to the 2012 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Cross Country academic all-star team.
Leading the Vikings were senior Mary Rogers, a three-time selection, and junior Chip Jackson, who was named for the second straight year.
Jackson finished 16th and received all-region honors last Saturday in helping the WWU men place third at the NCAA Division II West Regionals and earn a sixth straight trip to nationals. A mathematics major, he is maintaining a 3.93 grade point average.
Rogers, who is taking a program in pre-medicine, has a 3.88 GPA.
Three Viking sophomores were named for the first time. They are Mikhaila Thornton, Joshua Reiter and Haley O'Connor.
Thornton is an industrial design major with a 3.61 GPA, Reiter is a computer science major with a 3.56 GPA and O'Connor is a biochemistry major with a 3.30 GPA.
