Wants more research on plastic bag ban

Published: November 8, 2012

The article by Todd Myers regarding banning plastic bags printed by The Bellingham Herald was very interesting.

If Mr. Myers is correct then the "Ban the Bags" members of the City Council rushed the city into adopting a law which now makes them, and the residents of Bellingham look rather foolish.

I call upon the members of the council to contact some or all of the agencies quoted in the article to verify the correctness of the statements. If they can find scientifically objective views to ban the bags in support of the ban, let them publish those findings for all to see.

If it turns out that the information cited by Mr. Myers is correct and that banning plastic bags may have been a mistake I call on the members of the council to admit their mistake and repeal the law.

Acting in haste has its dangers. Acting without full information about a topic is both foolish and dangerous.

Let's be honest and admit our mistake regarding plastic bags if it does turn out to be a mistake.
