Sehome, Squalicum and Bellingham earn wildcat spots

Several Whatcom County swimmers received good news Sunday, Nov. 4 when wild card spots were released for the Class 2A Swimming and Diving Championships Friday, Nov. 9-Saturday, Nov. 10, at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.

Sehome and Squalicum each earned four additional spots, and Bellingham added two events to its swim program.

Mariners Emily Lucke and Olivia Keneipp grabbed spots in diving, Ellie Poehlman earned a spot in the 500 free and freshman Leah Day punched her ticket in the 100 breaststroke.

"I was really exited for Leah," Sehome coach Don Helling said in a phone interview.

Squalicum's Shaye Fowler earned a spot in the 100 breaststroke, Abby VonFeldt got a wildcard spot in the 100 backstroke, Madi Krussow earned a spot in diving and Maddie Dohm claimed a spot in the 50 freestyle.

Bellingham got state spots in the 200 and 400 freestyle relay, and Anna McNabb earned a wildcard spot in the 200 freestyle
