Says Garrett has credentials for court

Published: November 1, 2012

I believe Deborra Garrett would make a terrific Superior Court judge.

Deborra is a bright, hardworking attorney of enormous integrity. She has practiced law in this community in all areas pertinent to Superior Court: business, family, criminal and civil. In fact, she is a longtime Superior Court arbitrator and judge pro tem. She is also a member of the Superior Court operations and budget Ccommittee.

Some other important things to know about Deborra: she won the Local Hero award from the state bar association for protecting county library patrons' privacy rights. She has been a volunteer attorney for Womencare Shelter, the YWCA and the Law Advocates; an attorney coach for the Meridian High School Mock Trial team; and she has served on the Bellingham Planning Commission and the Mayor's Neighborhood Advisory Commission. On a personal level, she was widowed at an early age and has raised two children alone since their father's death. Both children, young adults, are a credit to the community.

There is something else that should surely be considered: Whatcom County has never had a female Superior Court judge. Not one.

I'd say it's time, and Deborra Garrett is the right woman for Superior Court. Please vote for Deborra!
