Finds Garrett has experience for court

Published: November 1, 2012

I served Whatcom County as Superior Court judge for 20 years. I ask you to vote for Deborra Garrett for Superior Court judge.

In 1993, while judge, I chaired a Whatcom County Bar Association dinner where Deborra Garrett was honored with a national award for her service to justice. In 2005, she received the Washington State Bar Association Local Hero Award for her representation of the Deming Library, protecting both the library and your constitutional rights, including the right of privacy. One of her client's cases, briefed and successfully argued by her at the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals and successfully briefed at the United States Supreme Court, has been cited by more than 80 other state and federal courts as authority.

Before I was elected, I represented a variety of businesses and individuals before the Superior Court. After I was elected, I learned daily that my time as a private attorney served me well. Repeating recent comments by Judge Steve Mura, my service as a judge would have more difficult and imperfect had I not had years of experience in private practice. Similarly, Deborra Garrett would join the bench after years of private trial practice, which is very important. Deborra Garrett will be an excellent Superior Court judge.
