RIVERS

Columbia: Fishing in the lower river below Bonneville Dam has been slow. Last week, the state sampled 85 anglers who had one adult fall chinook, one steelhead and two adult coho. The catch-and-release sturgeon fishery in the lower river has been fair, while bank anglers are catching some legal-size fish in The Dalles Pool.

Cowlitz: Bank anglers at the barrier dam are catching fall chinook and coho, though most of the chinook are unmarked and were released. So far this year, the return of hatchery adult late stock coho is 5,857 fish, well below the 2011 tally of 17,188 fish.

Kennedy: The chum salmon fishing is fair. A creel sample done Saturday showed 17 anglers had nine fish.

Lewis: Boat anglers in the North Fork Lewis are catching mainly fall chinook, while bank anglers are primarily catching coho. Overall, however, the catch of coho is light. The late stock coho return count is 115 fish, compared with 13,627 fish last year.

Puyallup: The action is very slow, although people are catching a few coho.

Satsop: The river seems full of chum salmon at times. There also are a few coho being caught. The Humptulips also is full of chum, but they have to be released.

Yakima: Conditions have been iffy in the lower canyon following heavy rains. The best action has been above Ellensburg. Look to use San Juan worms and dark stonefly nymphs in sizes 8-10. Flows at the Umtanum gauge have leveled off around 2,100 cubic feet per second.

LAKES

Beaver: This lake near Issaquah will be stocked next week with 2,000 hatchery rainbows averaging about 2-3 pounds each. To facilitate the fish plant, the lake access site will close at sunset Nov. 6 and reopen at sunrise Nov. 8. Fishing will remain open while the access site is closed.

Bradley: This small lake in Puyallup was stocked with more than 500 rainbow trout this month.

Black: More than 7,000 rainbow trout were scheduled to be planted this month.

Longs Pond: This juvenile anglers-only lake in Lacey has been stocked with more than 700 rainbow trout this month.

SALT WATER

Hoodsport: Anglers have been averaging a little more than one fish per two rods, according to state creel samples. The fishing improved as last week ended.

South Sound: The salmon fishing has been slow. Nine anglers checked Saturday at the Point Defiance Boathouse had one chinook, one coho and one chum.
