Ferndale knocked out of districts

Published: October 31, 2012

The Ferndale volleyball team lost both of its matches in the Class 3A Northwest District tournament on Tuesday, Oct. 30, at Marysville-Pilchuck High School.

Ferndale lost its first match against Stanwood 25-17, 25-14, 25-18.

"We came in as the underdog against high ranked teams," Ferndale coach Patti Hoelzle said in a phone interview. "We stepped up. Taylor Reid and Abby Reid did a nice job. Abby kept getting the ball to the strongest hitters for us to gain points. They were game changers."

Ferndale lost its second match against Meadowdale in the first round of the consolation bracket 25-22, 25-23, 23-25, 26-24.

"It was a strong night for us, even though the scores might not show it," Hoelze said. "It was a good night for our seniors. We also saw some bright sports with our younger players."

Ferndale was led in the second match by Grace Bills with 11 kills, Hannah Pitsch with six kills and Elise Larson with eight kills.

"I'm really proud of them," Hoelzle sid. "They showed heart and played together and did everything I asked from them. I think they will be hungry next year to get some wins in districts."

Ferndale's season ended with the losses.
