Meridian responds with big second half in district win over Cedar Park Christian

The Meridian girls' soccer team overcame a quick goal in the first minute and defeated Cedar Park Christian 4-1 in a Class 1A Tri-District Tournament game on Tuesday, Oct. 30, at Sammamish.

The win sends the Trojans (10-7-3) to a winner-to-state tri-district game on Thursday, Nov. 1, against Blaine.

Meridian coach Andrea Ames said in a phone interview she was proud of how her team responded after giving up a goal in 27 seconds.

"After that we really dominated the game," Ames said. "I was really proud of them."

Kendra Holmes scored for the Trojans in the eighth minute to tie the game at 1-1. The score stayed the same until halftime when Meridian scored three second-half goals. Taylor Lunde scored in the 43rd minute to give the Trojans a 2-1 lead, Haley Belanger added a goal in the 62nd minute and Lunde scored again in the 66th minute.

"We definitely came out and played a really dominant second half," Ames said.
