The Nooksack River appeared to be cresting below flood stage late Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 31, and officials reported minor trouble from flood waters.

Marine Drive between Ferndale Road and Lummi Shore Road closed midday Wednesday. Whatcom County reported debris, shoulder erosion and other problems related to high water on about two dozen roads.

The National Weather Service issued a flood watch for the county through Thursday morning.

In Bellingham, there were no serious concerns, said Scott Brown-Davis, stormwater supervisor. “I think the crews have been doing a pretty good job of keeping (storm drains) open,” he said.

The county Division of Emergency Management also reported no major problems. Deputy Director Kent Catlin said his office would remain vigilant until the flood watch was lifted.
