The Whatcom Community College volleyball team took fifth place at the Dorian Harris Classic at Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham, Ore.

The Orcas lost to Mt. Hood and defeated Pierce on Friday, Oct. 26. On Saturday, Oct. 27, Whatcom defeated Shoreline 3-2, lost to Clackamas 3-0, beat Edmonds 2-1 and lost to Walla-Walla 2-0.

"We definitely improved as a team," Whatcom coach Jeff McDonald said in a phone interview. 'Hopefully it should motivate us for the rest of the season."

Whatcom hosts Shoreline on Wednesday, Oct. 31.
