The Meridian girls' cross country team won a team title Saturday, Oct. 27, at the Class 1A Girls' Tri-District Championships.
Mimi Meggison's fourth-place finish paced the Trojans to a first-place outcome at American Lake Golf Course in Tacoma. Mount Baker's Rachael Hatcher finished ninth overall.
As a team, Meridian scored 106 points to finish 20 points ahead of second-place King's. Lynden Christian placed sixth, Mount Baker was seventh and Nooksack Valley was ninth. The top six teams advance to the Class 1A State Championships.
"The girls ran really well as a team," Meridian coach Mike Holz said in a phone interview. "We had four girls place in the top 20, and it was the first ever girls' district title for Meridian."
The top 30 individuals advance to the state championsips. Meridian qualified four, including Meggison, Jayna Edmonds (13th), Sydney Gray (15th) and McKenzie Roque (20th). Lynden Christian qualified two for state with Marissa Hielkema (16th) and McKenzie Young (29th). Mount Baker advanced two to state with Hatcher and Kelsie Nern (14th) and Nooksack Valley qualified one for state with Amy Murphy (23rd).
The Class 1A Girls' State Championships will be Saturday, Nov. 3, at Pasco.
