Trojans fall to King's in district semis

Published: October 27, 2012

The Meridian girls' soccer team allowed an early goal and eventually lost 2-0 to King's in a Class 1A District Tournament semifinal Friday, Oct. 26, in Shoreline.

Knights' Beth Stella scored in the third minute, and Anna Parker scored King's second goal in the 46th minute to seal the win.

"They are a really tough team and are talented at every position," Meridian coach Andrea Ames said in a phone interview. "We battled, though, and it was good we didn't just roll over."

Ames was pleased with the performance of Trojans' goal keeper Abbi Rautenberg, who posted eight saves.

"She made some monster saves for us, and did a good job coming off her line," Ames said.

The play of Haley Belanger, who changed from her striker position to center mid at halftime, and Trinell Carpenter also helped Meridian keep the contest close.

The Trojans face Blaine at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at Civic Stadium in a district consolation match that will determine seeding for the Class 1A Tri-District Tournament.
