ANACORTES - The Ferndale football team won its final regular season game 55-13 at Anacortes in a Northwest Conference 2A/3A game on Thursday, Oct. 25.

Ferndale was led by Alex Conley who rushed for 131 yards and three touchdowns.

"He is a guy that is constant," Ferndale coach Jamie Plenkovich said. "He has great vision and a lot of heart. He is dangerous every time he touches the ball."

Ferndale scored first in the first quarter when Conley ran in from 3 yards out. Conley scored the second touchdown four minutes into the second quarter on a 10-yard run.

Richmond Baardson ran a 60-yard touchdown two minutes later for the Golden Eagles to make the score 21-0.

Anacortes scored its first touchdown, but Ferndale answered right back.

Conley ran in his final touchdown for 55 yards with two minutes left in the half on the first play of the series as Ferndale took the 28-7 lead into the half.

"We came out slow in the first half," Conley said. "In the second half we came out and played like we know we can. We came out with more energy."

Ferndale scored 27 unanswered points in the third and fourth quarters.

"We got a lot crisper in the second half," Plenkovich said. "Our older guys came out and worked hard, but it was good to see our younger guys stepping up too. We got to play a lot of people tonight."

The Golden Eagles used 12 different players to run the ball and gained 452 yards on the ground.

Baardson scored his second touchdown for Ferndale on a 4-yard run. Ferndale also had touchdowns by Joey Akers, Marcus Nightingale and Daniel Jones.

Ferndale ended the regular season 8-1, 6-1 NWC and qualified for the postseason.

"It was a big bounce back for us from last week (losing to Lynden)," Conley said. "It will help us get fired up and get some momentum going into the playoffs."
