Public can comment on tree removal plan for Bellingham arboretum

Published: October 25, 2012

BELLINGHAM - The Sehome Hill Arboretum board will hold a meeting and take public comment on a proposal to remove trees and branches to restore the view from the park's observation tower.

Trees to be removed would be mostly alders and maples, and some conifers would be pruned. No heavy equipment would be used. The trees would be replaced in some places by low-growing shrubs to maintain the view.

An open house on the proposal will take place at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, at Western Washington University in Academic Instruction West, room 403. Parking is available in front of Fairhaven College.

Comments will be accepted at sehomehill@cob.org until 5 p.m. Nov. 15. For details, go to cob.org/parks. Click on "Park Guide," then "Sehome Hill Arboretum."
