"It was the last game of the season and we wanted to set the tone for the postseason," Ferndale coach Patti Hoelzle said in a phone interview. "Bellingham came out with a lot of energy and we had to answer back."

The Golden Eagles were led by Grace Bills with 12 kills, Hannah Pitsch with six kills and Courtney Brown with three aces.

Ferndale (6-8, 5-7 NWC) qualified for the 3A Northwest District Tournament, but no information is available yet.

"We fought hard and Ferndale came out with scrappy defense," Bellingham coach Kim Bjorklund said in a phone interview. "Ferndale got a lot of balls up and were able to keep them going. We didn't make a lot of unforced errors."

Bellingham ended the season 5-9, 4-8 NWC.
