Mount Baker volleyball defeats Meridian in 4

The Mount Baker volleyball team defeated Meridian 25-11, 23-25, 28-26, 25-23 in a Northwest Conference match on Wednesday, Oct. 24, at Mount Baker High School.

The Mountaineers clinched the NWC 1A No. 4 seed with the win while the Trojans will be the No. 5 seed for the 1A Northwest District Tournament.

"We were both evenly matched teams," Mount Baker coach Mary LeSage said in a phone interview. "Our girls played really hard."

Leading the Mountaineers were Emily Yost who had 27 assists, two aces and 18 digs, Mariah Rowley who had 17 digs and one ace, Emma Lallas who had 10 kills, one ace and 14 digs, and Abby Winterburn who had 13 kills and six blocks.

"After we lost the first game we came out strong for the rest of the game," Meridian coach Shannon Claeys said in a phone interview. "It was a hard fought game through the whole match and I am really proud of the girls because they really show the fight to try and win."

Meridian was led by Allecia Galindo with 19 kills, 31 digs and four aces, Sydney Wasilewski had 19 kills, 24 digs and three aces and Nicole Hofbauer had 38 assists and two aces.

"Allecia had the best match of the season," Claeys said. "She played really well tonight and was all over."
