Ferndale doubles team finishes season with two close defeats at district tournament

Published: October 24, 2012

The Ferndale boys' doubles team of Trevor Koehn and Taylor Walton came as close as two could get to winning.

The Golden Eagles' team dropped both of its matches at the Class 3A Northwest District Tournament on Tuesday, Oct. 23, in Stanwood. The two defeats ended their season.

"The ball just didn't go their way this time," Ferndale coach Rudy Vendiola said in a phone interview. "It was so close."

Koehn and Walton, both seniors, lost their opening match to Shorecrest's Chris Sato and Nick North 7-6 (10), 7-5. The Shorecrest team later qualified for the state tournament.

"It was a very tightly contested match," Vendiola said. "It lasted about three hours."

In the consolation bracket, Koehn and Walton next fell to Glacier Peak's Jordan Hill and Julian Gonzalez 6-4, 4-6, 7-5.
