The Mount Baker volleyball team defeated Bellingham 25-18, 17-25, 27-25, 25-16 in a Northwest Conference match on Monday, Oct. 22, in Bellingham.
"We came out kind of flat and Baker played really well and scrappy and got a lot of balls up," Bellingham coach Kim Bjorklund said in a phone interview. "It kind of threw our kids off. Baker came out and didn't give up."
The Red Raiders were led by Anna Zeegers with 11 kills, Cari Pearsall with 21 assists and Olivia Halverson with five aces and 26 digs.
"We started out the season strong, but haven't been able to recapture that," Bjorklund said.
Mount Baker was led by Abby Winterburn with 12 kills, two aces and four blocks, Emma Lallas with seven kills, four aces and 15 digs, Taylor Leger with 26 assists, Maddy Tanis with seven kills and Emily Yost with 27 assists.
Bellingham (5-8, 4-7 NWC) will not qualify for the postseason and will finish the year at home against Ferndale on Wednesday, Oct. 24.
Mount Baker (2-11, 2-9 NWC) qualified for postseason play and will host Meridian on Wednesday, Oct. 24 to determine who is fourth and fifth.
