BELLINGHAM - A security breach at Bellingham International Airport triggered a brief shutdown at the passenger terminal and re-inspection of about 300 passengers at about 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21.
Port of Bellingham spokeswoman Carolyn Casey said an unauthorized man got into a restricted area at the airport and was stopped by security guards. Law officers questioned him and found no evidence that he was a threat.
But because he had entered a secure area that contained screened passengers, without being screened himself, security procedures required a second search of the passengers in the affected area. That required clearing out the terminal for the re-screening and a search of the terminal; nothing was found amiss.
The mix-up delayed three flights, Casey said.
