Sehome spreads the scoring in the 5-0 defeat in girls' soccer over Meridian

Published: October 19, 2012

The Sehome girls' soccer team defeated Meridian 5-0 in a Northwest Conference match on Thursday, Oct. 18, at Meridian High School.

"I thought the team did a great job passing and controlling the ball," Sehome coach Andria Fountain said in a phone interview. "Meridian had some good opportunites and we had to stay tough on defense the whole game. They kept coming back at us and we had to keep playing strong defense."

Sehome had goals from Emily Webster, Marie Kochman, Kate Peterson, Ashley Mindnich and Hanna Tarleton.

"I thought Christine Zlotek did a great job marking Taylor Lunde for most of the game and Alli Umbaugh and Hannah Mankle did a great job with their other threat, Lexi McKinnon," Fountain said.

Both teams qualified for the postseason.

"We played them really tough," Meridian coach Andrea Ames said in a phone interview. "We were battling pretty hard and played them a lot better than we have in the past few years. It wasn't as bad as the score showed."

Sehome improved to 14-0-1, 11-0-0 and will play Monday, Oct. 22, at Burlington-Edison, while Meridian (7-5-3, 4-5-2 NWC) will play at Mount Baker on Saturday, Oct. 20.
