The Blaine girls' soccer team came back from a 3-0 deficit to tie Lynden 4-4 in a Northwest Conference match on Tuesday, Oct. 16, in Lynden.
Jayme Smits and Lexi Smiley partnered up for the Lions in all of Lynden's goals.
"Lexi was really pushing for us up top," Lynden coach Kirstin Salminen said in a phone interview. "It was a nice change for us to be on the goal scoring end of things. It was unfortunate we couldn't hold on on the other end and prevent them from scoring."
Smits scored in the fifth and 13th minute and Smiley added a third in the 17th minute.
Olivia Olason scored first for Blaine in the 33rd minute on a pass from Liz Berry.
Smiley scored Lynden's final goal in the 44th minute.
Berry then assisted on Blaine's second goal scored by Ashley Quesada before adding two herself to give the Borderites the tie.
Lynden is now 2-9-3, 0-7-3 NWC and will play at Ferndale on Thursday, Oct. 18, while Blaine (3-7-4, 2-5-4 NWC) will host Sedro-Woolley.
