Hazlett, Squalicum defeats Mount Baker 4-0 in girls' soccer

Published: October 17, 2012

The Squalicum girls' soccer team defeated Mount Baker 4-0 in a Northwest Conference match on Tuesday, Oct. 16, in Bellingham.

Squalicum scored its first goal in the 55th minute when Lauren Gibb found herself on the end of a Kim Hazlett pass. Hazlett then scored two goals in the next seven minutes for the Storm.

"Kim Hazlett was a spark for us," Squalicum coach David Kish said in a phone interview. "She contributed in the first three goals and stepped up and put a lot of pressure on them. But the whole team did a great job of keeping the ball in their half allowing our forwards to do what they needed to do."

Sarah Byron scored the final goal in the 79th minute.

"Obviously we had a slow start, but the team really turned it around at the start of the second half," Kish said. "We corrected a few things at half and they went out with a lot of intensity."

Squalicum improved to 12-1-1, 9-1-0 NWC and will play at Lynden Christian on Thursday, Oct. 18, while Mount Baker (4-8-2, 2-7-1 NWC) will host Anacortes.
