The Chuckanut Radio Hour, a radio variety show sponsored by Village Books, hosts Vancouver, B.C., authors Brian Calvert and Chris Cannon, who will talk about their book, "America, But Better: The Canada Party Manifesto," on Tuesday, Oct. 23, at The Leopold's Crystal Ballroom, 1224 Cornwall Ave.
The book is a hilarious sendup about everything that's wrong with the United States -- from our non-use of the metric system to our obsession with celebrity TV shows -- and how Canada can help set America right by running for U.S. president this election season (yes, Canada is the candidate).
Cannon is a former U.S. Marine Corps sergeant who served in the presidential honor guard and in the intelligence and counterterrorism fields. He now teaches cultural criticism at the University of British Columbia.
Calvert has been involved in more than 50 short films and five multimedia stage shows, and is co-creator of the online sketch comedy groups churchofjerks.com and villageidiot.ca.
Geof Morgan is the musical guest.
For a sneak preview, search "America, But Better" on YouTube.
Tickets are $5 at brownpapertickets.com and Village Books. Doors open 6:30 p.m.; you must be seated by 6:45 p.m. as the show begins promptly at 7 p.m.
