Local racquetball player wins two gold medals at U.S. Open championships

Wanda Collins won two gold medals at the U.S. Open Racquetball Championships on Oct. 4-7 in Minneapolis.

Collins, who plays at Bellingham Athletic Club, was 5-0 in the tournament. Collins defeated the top-seeded player 15-2, 15-0 in the women's 60-plus division. Collins also teamed with Vince Kitely of Seattle to go 6-0 and win the title in the 40-plus mixed doubles division.

More than 700 players competed in the event.

Here are results of the Lake Padden Men's Club fall two-man scramble on Oct. 8:

First Division - First gross: Shane Clarke/Mark Walker, 64; first net: Paul Berube/Dan Jansen, 60.

Second Division - First gross: Steve Swank/Steve Eggert, 68; first net: Dean Carpenter/Gary Bring, 60.

Third Division - First gross: Doug Akre/Bryan Jones, 69; first net: Fred Olsen/Scott Olsen, 60.

Fourth Division - First gross: Doug Bennett/Ryan Bennett, 72; first net: Mike Moreno/Steve Berkompass, 57.

Fifth Division - First gross: Don Lewis/Jerry Lilleston, 76; first net: Terry Fahlstrom/Don Alderson, 57.

HOLES-IN-ONE

Jan Goodwin hit a hole-in-one on Oct. 8 at Sandy Point Golf Club. Goodwin used a 7-iron on the 75-yard No. 3 hole.

Dane Ellis hit a hole-in-one on Oct. 2 at Lake Padden Golf Course. Ellis used a 6-iron on the 158-yard No. 4 hole.
