Blaine narrowly lost the first and third set and eventually fell 3-0 to Friday Harbor during a non-conference match Saturday, Oct. 13, in Friday Harbor.
The Borderites dropped the first set 26-24, lost the second 25-14 and made the Wolverines work for a 27-25 third-set victory.
"Their communication got a lot better," Blaine coach Sheli Moore said of her team. "We made some good blocks and really started hitting the ball instead of tipping it over the net."
Blaine setter Kayla Ubil showed her toughness as she sustained a foot injury in the second set but re-entered the match to play the third.
"She is really a fire cracker out there," Moore said of Ubil. "She came back after she got hurt and did a good job. Hopefully we can make things easier on her as we start to pass better."
Blaine faces Lynden next at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, at Lynden High School.
