Kindlund earns automatic state berth

Published: October 14, 2012

Bellingham diver Ellie Kindlund earned an automatic berth to the Class 2A Swimming and Diving championships with her first-place score of 280.20 during the Northwest District Dive on Saturday, Oct. 13, at Fidalgo Pool in Anacortes.

Bellingham's Shea Walker took second with a 151.15, and Anacortes' Jasmine DeMonte placed third with her 11-dive program score of 96.25.

"We were glad Ellie performed so well," Bellingham coach Jeff Anderson said in a phone interview. "She didn't miss a dive. Usually there's one dive that goes awry, but she hit all her dives today, and that was nice to see."

Walker's score of 151.15 was strong enough to earn an automatic berth to districts.

"For Shea, it was the first time she has been able to complete the 11-dive program," Anderson said.

Although several teams were invited to the district dive, Anderson said Bellingham and Anacortes were the only schools with divers competing. Anderson said he expects the entire slate of district teams to compete in the next district dive, which is 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at Fidalgo Pool.
