BELLINGHAM - U.S. veterans who need help applying for Veterans Affairs benefits can get it at Bellingham Public Library on Saturday, Oct. 20.

The free event will be 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the library's Lecture Room, 210 Central Ave. Veterans should bring a copy of their DD 214 if they have it.

It is presented by the Whatcom County Veteran Navigator Program, which is directed by Doris Kent, the mother of U.S. Army Cpl. Jonathan Santos who was killed while serving in Iraq on Oct. 15, 2004.

Program volunteers are themselves veterans.
