BELLINGHAM - Green Party candidates for U.S. president and a state House seat will speak Friday, Oct. 19, at Western Washington University.
Presidential candidate Jill Stein will outline her party's Green New Deal during the talk, from 6 to 8 p.m. in Room 210 of the Academic Instructional Center West.
According to Stein's website, jillstein.org, the Green New Deal would provide full employment in part through 16 million "green" jobs in areas such as energy-efficiency retrofitting, sustainable energy, mass transit and regional food production.
Also appearing is Howard Pellett of Guemes Island, who is challenging Jeff Morris, D-Mount Vernon, for a state House seat in Legislative District 40. The 40th district includes south Bellingham and southwest Whatcom County.
Morris and the other candidates for president were invited to the forum but will not attend.
