BELLINGHAM - One lane of Interstate 5 near Samish Way will be closed weeknights over the next two weeks to install a new culvert beneath the freeway.

Washington State Department of Transportation crews will drill under the freeway Monday through Thursday, Oct. 15 to 18, for the new 200-foot-long culvert pipe. The right lane of southbound I-5 will be closed from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

The second week of closures, Oct. 22 to 25, crews will install the culvert. The right land of northbound I-5 and part of the Samish Way on-ramp will be closed from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Expect minor slowdowns when driving through the work zone.

The work will replace an older, plugged culvert.
