Published: October 12, 2012

The Sehome girls' soccer team defeated Lynden 5-0 in a Northwest Conference match on Thursday, Oct. 11, in Lynden.

Kate Peterson scored the first goal for Sehome in the 15th minute. Ashley Mindnich added two more goals for the Mariners in the first half.

"We played really good soccer. We just weren't able to prevent them from crossing it in and being dangerous," Lynden coach Kristin Salminen said in a phone interview. "All of their goals came from crosses."

Christine Zlotek scored in the 51st minute and Marie Kochman scored the final goal for the Mariners in the 54th.

"Kellie Fiebig kept them less dangerous," Salminen said. "She was solid marking and tackling. She took all our free kicks and was great at clearing the ball as well."

Lynden fell to 2-9-2, 0-7-2 NWC and will host Blaine on Tuesday, Oct. 16, while Sehome (12-0-1, 9-0-0 NWC) will host Nooksack Valley.
