Kim Hazlett scored two goals as the Squalicum girls' soccer team defeated Ferndale 4-0 in a Northwest Conference match on Thursday, Oct. 11, in Ferndale.
"Squalicum is an absolutely, great team. I think they're the best in the league," Ferndale coach Joe Gonzalez said in a phone interview. "They are fun to watch, even when we are playing against them. We had breakdowns and that's what cost us the goals."
Hazlett opened up the scoring for the Storm on a pass from Lauren Gibb. Kim Dorr and Sarah Byron also had goals for Squalicum.
"David Kish has the girls playing well," Gonzalez said. "I think they can make a legitimate run at state. We are looking forward to our first game in the playoffs though and the girls continue to grow and I am happy about that."
Ferndale is now 5-5-3, 5-3-2 NWC and will host Lynden on Thursday, Oct. 18, while Squalicum (11-1-1, 8-1-0 NWC) will host Mount Baker on Tuesday, Oct. 16.
