Published: October 11, 2012

BELLINGHAM - Two men put a literal spin on stealing cable early Thursday, Oct. 11, when they allegedly tried to steal spools of wire from CenturyLink, according to the Bellingham Police Department.

Police responded to CenturyLink's Fraser Street location at about 4 a.m., after two men were seen on video surveillance hopping the fence and trying to steal wire spools, Sgt. Jason Monson said.

The person monitoring the camera called police, but the men hopped the fence and ran before officers arrived. A police dog was able to track one of the men, who was found hiding in the blackberry bushes on the edge of Whatcom Creek, near Diehl Ford. Officers arrested John Barber Jr., 26, for investigation of second-degree burglary.

Police were still looking for the other man involved.
