It took six weeks, but the Ferndale football team finally made its case loud enough to make the rest of the state listen.
The Golden Eagles are back, and that means they're back in the Associated Press Washington State Prep Football poll.
Following a 55-14 victory at Sedro-Woolley to improve to 6-0, Ferndale debuted in the Class 3A poll on Wednesday, Oct. 10, in a sixth-place tie with 5-1 Oak Harbor. Bellevue remains the unanimous No. 1 in the classification.
The Golden Eagles will host Bellingham in a 7 p.m. Northwest Conference 2A/3A game on Friday, Oct. 12.
Lynden (5-1), which beat the Red Raiders 43-13 last week, stayed put at No. 3 in the Class 2A poll, one-point behind No. 2 Lakewood. Othello received 12 of the 13 first-place votes in the poll to retain the top spot, while the Lions received the other first-place vote.
The Lions next travel to Burlington-Edison for a 7 p.m. NWC 2A/3A game on Friday.
Despite its hard-fought 26-19 victory at Friday Harbor last week, Blaine (5-1) dropped one spot in the Class 1A poll to No. 8, one point behind La Center. King's remained the unanimous top pick in the classification.
The Borderites face an important NWC 1A game this week, when they host Meridian at 7 p.m. on Friday.
Lummi, which was 4-2 entering its game at Muckleshoot Tribal School on Wednesday, remained at No. 4 in the Class 1B poll after its 58-6 win at Crescent. Liberty Christian received five of the seven No. 1 votes to claim the top spot over Neah Bay, which received two first-place votes.
The Blackhawks will play their second game in 48 hours when they host Clallam Bay at 6 p.m. on Friday.
Skyline was a unanimous No. 1 selection in Class 4A, while Morton/White Pass received all the first-place votes in Class 2B.
