Bellingham's depth defeats Sedro-Woolley in girls' swimming

Published: October 10, 2012

The Bellingham girls' swim team only won five events, but its depth carried the Red Raiders to a 101-66 win at Sedro-Woolley in a Northwest Conference meet on Tuesday, Oct. 9.

"Sedro-Woolley has some good swimmers," Bellingham coach Jeff Anderson said in a phone interview. "We had more depth than them and that really helped out. It was a good meet."

Bellingham's Sage Ince won the 500 freestyle in 6 minutes, 46.49 seconds.

"She miscounted and stopped after 450 meters," Anderson said. "There was a three second delay before she realized and the other swimmers caught up, but when she realized she took off and won by five seconds. It was a really interesting 500 freestyle to watch."

Maddie Gillman won the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:03.00 for the Red Raiders and also won the 100 freestyle with a time of 58.86.
