Local equestrian wins two events at state fair

Local equestrian Megan Neugebauer won two events at the Washington State 4H Fair in Puyallup on Sept. 17-20.

Neugebauer and her horse Call Me Cool Skipa won the Grand Champion Intermediate Showmanship and the Grand Champion Intermediate Huntseat Equitation. Neugebauer also placed sixth in the Overall Western Stockseat Equitation in a field of 120 competitors.

ALLEN 14TH AT GOLF EVENT IN RICHLAND

Catherine Allen of Bellingham placed 14th overall at the Pacific Northwest Super Senior Women's Amateur Championship last week at the Meadow Springs Country Club in Richland.

Allen shot a two-round total of 80-85-165. Holly Horwood of Vancouver, B.C., won the event with a total of 146.

HOLES-IN-ONE

Eun-Hyoung Jang of Ferndale had a hole-in-one on Sept. 30 at Shuksan Golf Club. Jang used a 5-iron on the 144-yard No. 6 hole.

Matt Jones had a hole-in-one on Oct. 6 at Raspberry Ridge Golf Course. Jones used an 8-iron on the 135-yard No. 3 hole.

Bob Fish had a hole-in-one on Oct. 4 at the Bellingham Golf and Country Club. Fish used a 6-iron on the 190-yard No. 18 hole for his third hole-in-one.

COMMUNITY BOATING CENTER NAMES NEW DIRECTOR

Steve Walker has been named the new executive director at the Community Boating Center in Fairhaven.

Walker is a longtime Bellingham resident who spent years providing oversight for Western Washington University's Outdoor Center and was recently the property steward with Whatcom Land Trust.

Some dates coming up for the CBC are: last day of rentals, Sunday, Oct. 14; fall clean-up day, Saturday, Oct. 20; and fall celebration and recognition reception, Thursday, Nov. 15.
