WWU's Strickland named GNAC golfer of the week

Western Washington University's Mark Strickland has been named Red Lion/Great Northwest Athletic Conference Men's Golfer of the Week for Sept. 30-Oct. 6.

Strickland, a sophomore, earned the accolade for the second week in a row, finishing sixth in the Golfweek Invitational at Sunriver, Ore.

Strickland, who ranks second among conference scoring leaders with a 72.1 average, had rounds of 72, 72 and 73 for a 217 total as WWU placed third in the team standings.

Two weeks ago, Strickland took medalist honors in leading the Vikings to the team title at its own WWU Invitational.

The Vikings are competing at the Chico State Invitational on Monday and Tuesday.
