Kelly Joe Phelps, the internationally praised free-jazz and folk-roots slide guitarist from Sumner performs from his new recording "Brother Sinner and the Whale" at 9:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, at the Green Frog, 1015 N. State St.
Phelps' lyrics fuse poetry from the Book of Jonah and the vintage gospel blues of Mississippi John Hurt, with aspects of the early gospel work of Bill and Charlie Monroe. Cover is $10.
