Published: October 8, 2012

FERNDALE - Two men were arrested Friday, Oct. 5, for allegedly stealing supplies from a Habitat for Humanity home construction site in Ferndale, according to the Whatcom County Sheriff's Office.

At about 7:30 a.m., a detective saw two men on Garrett Lane off Thornton Road trying to pry open a metal construction job box, usually used to store tools.

The men ran when the detective approached, and a search dog and helicopter were used to track them down, with help from the Ferndale Police Department. One was arrested after he was found hiding in a tree. Deputies traced the other man to his home on Brown Road and arrested him there.

The box was found to have been stolen from a Habitat for Humanity site in Ferndale.

The two men were identified as Preston E. Waters and Gavin J. Haggith, both 30 and Ferndale-area residents. They were booked into Whatcom County Jail for investigation of second-degree burglary.
